Chlorine Dioxide (ClO2) is an effective sanitation chemical, that has been approved by FDA, EPA, and the WHO. It has been used for approximately 70 years in cleaning municipal water supplies. ClO2 is commonly used in the oil & gas industry, food & beverage processing, health care, cooling tower microbial control, energy, and agriculture. ClO2 is generated onsite, dissolved in water. The dissolved ClO2 will become a gas over time and that rate of conversion increases with temperature.
Although ClO2 provides great benefits as an effective chemical disinfectant/sanitizer, it can also pose very toxic, short-term health effects to employees who use it without the proper equipment, chemical safety training, and appropriate PPE. The use of ClO2 gas or liquid should be accompanied by performing appropriate real-time air monitoring to ensure that employees are using the appropriate types of respiratory protection during specific types of chemical disinfecting/sanitizing operations.

Mr. Sullivan’s career is comprised of board appointments, entrepreneurship endeavors and philanthropy. Graduating from Purdue University in 1981, Mr. Sullivan began his career in the industrial marketing sector. He built and sold a company still known today as Martec, which serves Fortune 500 Companies and has had a strong international presence since its inception.
Christopher Scheib, MS, ASP
Christopher Scheib, currently serves as President and Senior Industrial Hygienist of Ideal Safety and Hygiene, LLC, with office locations in Indianapolis, Indiana and Woodland, California. Mr. Scheib has a MS in Safety Management from Indiana State University – 1999, along with a BS in Environmental Health from Indiana University - 1992. Mr. Scheib has been an industrial hygiene and safety consultant for nationwide industrial hygiene and safety consulting firms since 1994, with extensive experience in specialty chemical manufacturing, laboratory analytical testing, food, beverage and pharmaceutical manufacturing work environments throughout the United States, Canada, France and Germany.
