Event Date:
April 17, 2018 11:45am
Presenter:
Cari Elofson

Cari Elofson of the Las Positas Training Institute will discuss heat illness prevention, including indoors.

Cal/OSHA has had the heat illness prevention rule in place for outdoor places of employment since 2006, but what about indoor places of employment? There is currently a proposed standard that seeks to minimize heat-related illness and injury among workers working in indoor places of employment going through the Cal/OSHA Advisory committee. As a member of the committee and the Assistant Director for the OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC) at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, Cari Elofson will provide some insight on recent activity with the indoor standard. She will also introduce the OTIEC based in Northern California and provide an overview of the OSHA Education Center program nationwide.

Cari joined the OSHA Training Center in December, 2014, and oversees the development, delivery and promotion of high quality OSHA standards-based training for construction, maritime and general industry at OSHA Training Center locations throughout California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii and Guam.

Cari brings over 20 years of environmental health and safety training, consulting and management experience and over 15 years in safety curriculum development with a wide variety of organizations, including Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, state and local organizations and service groups. She holds a Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certificate from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, and is an authorized OSHA outreach safety instructor.

Prior to joining the OSHA Training Center, Cari was responsible for safety training and development in the Environmental Health and Safety department at California State University, Fullerton, where she developed customized instructor-led and online training programs as well as a campus learning management system. As the co-founder and president of JoshuaCasey Business Solutions, an environmental, health and safety training and education consulting company, she opened multiple training center locations and provided program development consulting services to clients throughout the U.S.
