“From Eye in the Sky – The Emergence of Drones in EHS”
The drone Industry and the commercial Drone Inspection Industry has shown some tremendous growth over the last few years and our presenter, Andy Kettle, believes we are only scraping the surface. There is a tremendous amount of research and devlopment into the use of drones for specific applications including Environmental, Safety and Health areas.
Andy’s presentation will primarily focus on current drone (UAS) use in the united states and then open discussion of what is coming down the pipeline. The concept will approach the drone as a stable platform which can by launched, positioned and controlled from the ground. The drone can/will carry a sensor package suitable to the task at hand. The data is captured and downloaded from the drone. It then may/will have a third step as it is either reviewed by humans or processed via additional software (or a combination of both) to generate the final deliverable.
Using the above as the framework you can see that any location/structure which can be accessed/viewed from the sky can now be the subject of an inspection the output of which can be visual or processed. This inspection can be undertaken by a drone service company with minimum disruption from a safe standoff and without anybody having to leave the ground.
Included in the presentation will be a variety of applications and uses for inspections and audits for EHS professionals. Andy will also present some local and other relevant video footage of applications and uses for drones including the following:
- General and legal requirements for drone usage
- Post-accident investigations
- Inspection and audits
- Future applications including confined space use feasibility
There are obvious reasons why drone applications can be of benefit to EHS including:
- Less down time for accident investigations, surveys and audits
- Lowers employee risk
- Provides detailed after event analysis
- Easily recoverable return on investment
About the Presenter:
Andy Kettle is the President of Laguna Drones Commercial Drone Inspection Services, San Jose, CA. He was born Dublin Ireland and has been a San Jose resident since early 90’s. His company is a provider of commercial and industrial drone services to help organizations improve their asset inspections and maintenance procedures in a cost-effective manner and at the same time improve staff safety by reducing their exposure to challenging environments.
Before starting Laguna Drones, Andy spent 10 years running his own online advertising agency and before that general manager of a large motorcycle dealership. After a successful career in the motorcycle industry Andy recognized the future potential of online advertising and began to provide agency services and online account management for a wide range of business in the bay area and across the US.
Andy has a Bachelor of Business Studies, FAA Part 107 license (Remote Pilot), and is a Cal Osha 10 Hour Cardholder. He still enjoys motorcycle riding, track days, hiking, backpacking and relaxing with family.
