Training Fundamentals

Mr. Josh A. Rice, M.S. CDPT, CSNT

Josh Rice is the Director of Transportation and Fleet Services for Barbers Hill ISD, located on the east side of Houston, Texas.  He has been in transportation for over 20 years.  Through his career, he has managed Transportation and Fleet Services for five different school districts in the State of Texas, with some as large as 400 school buses and over 600 employees.

Josh is a certification instructor with the Texas Association for Pupil Transportation (TAPT).  He earned his Trainer, Supervisor, and Official certification through TAPT.  He was the first in the state to achieve the “Master Official” certification with TAPT.  Josh is also an instructor with the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT), where he received his designation as Certified Director of Pupil Transportation and Certified Special Needs Transportation.  He is the only one in the State of Texas to hold all three of these certifications.

Josh currently serves as the President for the Texas Association for Pupil Transportation.  He has presented numerous workshops over the years at the local, state and national levels.  He is an Academy Instructor for Region IV’s Driver Trainer Academy, an American Heart Association BLS Instructor, and an Associate Instructor with Crisis Prevention Institute.

Josh graduated Cum Laude from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences, and from Abilene Christian University with a Master of Science in Organizational and Human Resource Development.  He also completed a Graduate Certificate Program in Conflict Resolution from ACU.  He is a licensed nurse and worked earlier in his career in the trauma division of the Emergency Room.  He is a Texas Peace Officer, currently assigned as a Lieutenant/Field Training Officer in the Patrol Division with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
